Created with students at Granite Bay High School, the musical has been licensed around the world as schools seek to amplify the academic pressures facing today’s adolescents.

Recently Hollywood Soapbox exchanged emails with Holmes and Gomes about RANKED and being one of the stories included in HBO’s new film “My So-Called High School Rank”

This new documentary is kind of like “High School Musical” — but real life. The story follows students at Granite Bay High School, near Sacramento, Calif., as they put on a production of their musical “Ranked,” which focuses on the difficult process of college applications.

My So-Called High School Rank, premiering on November 29 on HBO, follows students in a production of the high school musical, Ranked, a show all about just how far students and parents will go to secure their academic futures.

"Come Up for Air" is about pushing through the moment, finding some new appreciation, and ultimately, new ways of valuing ourselves.

Joshua Dela Cruz (Aladdin, Blue’s Clues) and Amanda Dela Cruz (The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel) have recorded “Come Up for Air,” a song from the new musical Ranked.

When David Taylor Gomes and Kyle Holmes asked their theatre students about the top concerns they faced in high school and in life, the fight to get into college and the ‘game’ of GPA point-scoring was high up the list for many of them.

Ranked is now offering DIGITAL PERFORMANCE LICENSING for this school year! Digital Scripts and Piano Tracks for you to rehearse and perform through Zoom, Google Meet or other mediums.

Mindy Cooper directs the musical penned by Kyle Holmes and David Taylor Gomes. Industry presentations of the new musical Ranked will be held March 20 at noon and 4 PM at The Daryl Roth Theatre.

The new musical Ranked, which follows the 2019 college admissions scandal, is now accepting video submissions for an upcoming industry presentation to be filmed by HBO for a documentary.

Following a record number of nominations and votes, winners have been announced for the 2019 BroadwayWorld Sacramento Awards. GFTF received awards for Mindy Cooper (Best Direction), Chloe Boyan (Best Actress), and Ranked, A New Musical (Best Musical).

Almost everyone is familiar with the college scandal that broke out early in the year involving Rick Singer, a former college counselor in the Sacramento area that worked with past Granite Bay students. When the news came out, it was perfectly timed with the premiere of Granite Bay High School’s new musical – Ranked.

Encouraged by the numerous accolades and widespread interest in reproducing the show, Holmes and Gomes have set their sights on taking the show to New York. With the additional songs and development, it is well on its way to securing a spot on Broadway.
