Kyle Holmes (Book) and David Taylor-Gomes (Music & Lyrics) started collaborating in 2012 at Granite Bay High School. The premiere of Ranked at Granite Bay High School is their seventh musical as director and musical director.
In 2017 they were the first amateur theatre group to produce The Unfortunates, coming off of its run at the Oregon Shakespeare Festival and A.C.T. San Francisco. Later in 2017, they developed Boxed Up - The Musical, an episodic six-part musical comedy that took place at the Warehouse Artists Lofts (WAL) First Friday event, and culminated in a concert performance at Capital Stage. Taylor-Gomes wrote the music and lyrics for Boxed Up, while Holmes was one of the show’s writers.
David Taylor Gomes (Music & Lyrics)
David Taylor is a Composer, Pianist, Musical Director and Educator. He is a member of Actor's Equity Association and American Society of Composers and Publishers.
As a member of Actor's Equity Association, his credits include The Host in Musical of Musicals the Musical (Sacramento Theatre Company) and The Suspects in Murder for Two (Sacramento Theatre Company).
He has musically directed numerous productions including Mr. Burns: A Post-Electric Play at Capital Stage, Wonderful Town at Davis Shakespeare Ensemble, In the Heights, The Light in the Piazza, and Andrew Lippa's The Wild Party for Green Valley Theatre Co., and Jesus Christ Superstar, The Unfortunates, and Into the Woods and Theatre at Granite Bay.. He is currently working on a new song cycle featuring his original music.
Kyle Holmes (Book)
Kyle Holmes is an educator, director and playwright. He became the Director of Theatre Arts at Granite Bay High School in 2011 where he teaches theatre, technical theatre, and musical theatre full time. He has produced and directed over twenty-one productions, and his students have gone on to create art in Southern California, New York City, and across the United States.
In 2018, he was one of four selected theatre arts teachers in California chosen to serve on the California Department of Education’s Visual and Performing Arts Standards Advisory Committee (CDE VAPA SAC), re-writing California’s K-12 VAPA standards. In 2019, he was recognized as Teacher of the Year by the Roseville Joint Union High School District.
During the summer, Holmes teaches theatre arts at Sugarloaf Fine Arts Camp through the El Dorado County Office of Education, where he has spent the past thirteen years working to help students further their artistic passions.
